Tagging your subscribers, such as VIP, corporate, family, etc makes it easy to create segments

Updated over a week ago

There are two scenarios for sending campaign emails, and it usually depends on how many subscribers you have.

If you have a small number of subscribers; for example, fewer than 1000, you might always send your emails to all of them.

However, if you have a larger list, you might want to send different emails to different types of subscribers, which are called Segments (not to be confused with segments in upselling!).

A Segment is a collection of tags that you define. For example, you might have a segment called Leisure VIPs, and to be included in that segment, a subscriber needs to have both the tag VIP and Leisure to qualify for it.

To add tags to subscribers, go to to Campaigns > Subscribers and then to the View subscribers tab. Click the Tag subscribers button to begin:

A new dialog will appear; here, you will search for the subscribers you want to tag. To do so, click the Add filter box:

You will see a dropdown with all the different data elements by which you can filter your subscribers.

Note: The available filters will vary by each PMS.

Example: Let's say we want to create a segment for leisure guests who stayed with us last summer.

We need to tag them so that we can create a segment based on that tag.

Here is how you might filter your subscriber list to do that:

Note: When you apply filters, you will only see the first 500 matching subscribers for performance reasons.

Now, click the Add tag button to bring up this dialog:

Enter a tag name that you can easily identify. If the tag you want does not yet exist, simply type the tag name you want and then press Enter on your keyboard, and a new tag will be created.

Click the Push button to create a background task to tag the selected subscribers.

Depending on how many subscribers you are tagging, the task might take a minute or two.
